MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL OF CHAALIS - 1

Museum Overview

In the summer of 1429, on the lands of Chaalis, the Battle of Fourcheret saw French troops, galvanized by Joan of Arc's fervor, repel the Anglo-Burgundian forces threatening the region. Following the liberation of Orléans and the coronation of Charles VII, these battles symbolized the reconquest of the kingdom and the renewed hope for a united France. In Senlis, as elsewhere, the spirit of Joan prevailed: courage, faith, and resistance against the invader.

On the first weekend of September, the Chaalis Abbey will transport its visitors 600 years back in time, during a grand medieval festival that will honor Joan of Arc.

A medieval market will set up its stalls in the heart of the Cistercian abbey: passionate artisans, shimmering fabrics, leather, jewelry, weapons, pottery, spices and mead will invite discovery and exchange, in an authentic and friendly atmosphere.

Throughout the weekend, the battles will electrify the site. The impressive buhurt combats, led by armored fighters, will offer an intense, raw, and spectacular show.

The jousting tournaments will resound with the clash of lances and hooves, in a demonstration of courage, skill and honor.

Young and old alike will find something to enjoy. Medieval games, participatory workshops, demonstrations of skills, historical reenactments and scenes of life from bygone days will fill the days.

Musicians and entertainers will accompany the public with their songs, ancient instruments and catchy melodies.

But at the heart of this celebration, an exceptional figure stands out. Joan of Arc, heroine and symbol of French history, will appear in the magnificent setting of Chaalis Abbey. A bearer of hope, faith, and courage, she will embody the spirit of the event and guide the public through the glorious days of the Middle Ages.

This medieval festival at Chaalis Abbey is a true invitation to travel back in time. A moment outside of time, to be experienced with family or friends. Come dream, feel the excitement, and celebrate living history, where ancient stones still whisper tales of the past.
