The Vez Keep is a historic monument located in the Pays de Valois, in the heart of the Hauts-de-France region. Dating from the 14th centurye century, it embodies the meeting of history and modernity, offering an enriching experience for lovers of history, architecture, and contemporary art. This majestic keep is one of the most imposing in France. It is distinguished by its impressive medieval architecture and rich history, which testify to the strategic and cultural importance of the region over the centuries.

Built around 1390, the keep is part of a larger complex comprising a fortified enclosure, towers, and residential buildings. Commissioned by Jean de Vez, the keep was erected at a time when the Hundred Years' War was raging between France and England.

The choice of this site for the construction of a fortress demonstrates the strategic importance of Vez, offering a breathtaking view of the Automne Valley. Over the centuries, the Vez Keep underwent several transformations. After the Hundred Years' War, the need for such massive fortifications diminished, and parts of the castle were adapted for more comfortable residential uses.

In the nineteenthe century, the building has been partially restored to preserve its unique historical and architectural character.

In 1987, it was purchased by an art and heritage enthusiast, Francis Briest, who undertook restoration work and decided to open it to the public. The keep then became a venue for exhibitions and cultural events, attracting visitors and artists from around the world. Contemporary sculptures and works by major figures of modern art, such as Daniel Buren and Antoine Bourdelle, are exhibited there, creating a fascinating dialogue between the medieval past and contemporary artistic creation.

A must-see destination in Hauts-de-France.

Every year, the Donjon de Vez also hosts temporary exhibitions. Its garden, classified as a "Remarkable Garden," is designed in a style revisiting medieval iconography by Pascal Cribier. It is also a space for contemplation where visitors can appreciate works of art in the open air.
