Discover some of the many hikes in the Pays de Valois
Valois is a region where it's good to recharge your batteries thanks to its unspoiled nature, its heritage, and the diversity of its landscapes. Whether you're in the north along the Automne, in the south where the Multien is crossed by the Green Way, or in the west in the heart of the Ermenonville forest, numerous possibilities are available to you.
Nature – Chaalis Abbey
This 14-kilometer hike begins in the charming village of Ermenonville. This town, known for being a famous holiday resort, was, during the Middle Ages, a renowned fortified town. At the heart of the village stands Ermenonville Castle, whose history is closely linked to that of the territory, from Jean-Jacques Rousseau to the Radziwill family; many historical figures have made it their home. After a first section in the Ermenonville Forest, you will have the chance to discover the outskirts of the Chaalis estate where you will see the Cistercian abbey, the Sainte-Marie Chapel, and the Jacquemart-André Museum. The second part of this expedition takes you back to the Ermenonville Forest, where you can admire sandy heathland recognized as a site of ecological interest by the European Union. Before returning to the village, this walk ends among pine trees and ferns. After the effort, the reward: the village crêperie is open continuously on Sundays for afternoon tea!
The sportswoman, from Autumn to Sainte-Marie
For the more athletic, this 23-kilometer hike will take you to the bell tower of the old church of Bourgon-Morcourt, which pierces the surrounding vegetation. All that remains today are the walls of the nave, a section of the Romanesque bell tower, and some vaulted elements of its Gothic choir. Then, after a few kilometers and a beautiful view of the valley outside Béthancourt-en-Valois, you'll reach Glaignes Castle. It overlooks the Sainte-Marie Valley. Now a private property undergoing renovation, this Renaissance-style building was built in the XNUMXth century. Back in Crépy-en-Valois, the medieval town walls will rise up before you.
Aesthetics: the high Valley of
Autumn
This 7-kilometer hike is one of the most popular in the area: its accessibility makes it ideal for families as well as walkers looking to discover the gems and viewpoints of the Vallée de l'Automne. During this getaway, you will discover the local abbey.
